Overexpression of Oncogene Products Can Cause Tumor Progression without Parenchymal Infiltration in the Rat Brain1

چکیده
Tumor cell progression and parenchyma! infiltration play important roles in the pathogenesis of gliomas. Using retrovirally marked rat 9L gliosarcoma cells, which when injected in the CDF rat brain form noninfiltrating tumors which grow only surrounding existing blood ves sels, we were able to investigate elements of tumor growth and progression within the substance of the brain. Transfection of 9L by oncogenes associated with tumor progression and expressed in gliomas resulted in alterations in the in vivo phenotype of these cells, with the production of faster growing, well-vascularized, large solid tumors. However, diffuse ¡utili raÃion was not seen. Moreover, coinjection of 9L or its transfectants together with the infiltrative C6 cell line resulted in a mixed tumor of noninfiltrating 9L cells in an environment of infiltrating C6 cells, sug gesting that the ¡nfiltrativeability of C6 cells is controlled on the individual cell level.

متن کاملStereotactic radiosurgery as a primary treatment modality for pineal parenchymal tumors
Background: Pineal parenchymal tumor (PPT) is extremely rare and histologically heterogeneous, and the optimal treatment strategy is controversial. This study examined clinical outcomes of patients with PPT treated with cyberknife radiosurgery (CKRS) as a primary treatment modality after tumor biopsy. Materials and Methods: Between 2009 and 2018, there were six patients diagnosed with PPT who w...
متن کاملThe Regression of Glioblastoma Multiforme is Time Dependent in Wild-Type Rat Xenograft Model
Introduction: Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is an aggressive case of primary brain cancer which remains among the most fatal tumors worldwide. Although, some in vitro and in vivo models have been developed for a better understanding of GBM behavior; a natural model of GBM would improve the efficiency of experimental models to human GBM tumors. We aimed at the present study to examine the surviv...
متن کاملThe Difference of Expression of 18 Genes in Axillary Invasion and Vascular Invasion Compared to Control Samples in Breast Cancer
Background & Objective: Recent studies from gene profiling have revealed some genes that are overexpressed in the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) process and are responsible for its initiation and activation resulting in tumor progression and metastasis. The present study aimed to assess the role of genes involved in the EMT process and the association of these genes wi...
متن کاملThe Role of miRNA Dysregulation in Thyroid Cancer Development by Targeting the Main Signaling Pathways
Thyroid cancer is one of the most common malignancies of endocrine glands, causing carcinomas, such as papillary, follicular, medullary, and anaplastic thyroid carcinomas. Due to the significance of thyroid carcinomas, identification of the main signaling pathways and the affecting mutations has been considered by researchers. Further studies on the dysregulation of oncogenes in signaling path...
